Try Caring

I can’t believe it is already May. The end of March seemed unreal and I sort of passed through April in a daze. 2020 started with a bang! COVID, shelter-in place mandates, confusion, chaos, and unprecented death. I have toggled between periods of reading/watching the news non-stop and then taking multiple day breaks.

I know many people are dealing with the loss of loved ones, the loss of jobs and are wondering how they are going to make it. I know this has not been an easy time for you and I’m hoping and praying things will get better soon. I know it is hard but please do not give up hope. Times like these should bring us together, not tear us apart. It is sad how some people are unconcerned about others. Of course this is an ongoing issue that has been seen when people are confronted about/try to discuss/try to enact change/or demand justice re racial profiling by police, hate crimes or gun regulations. Yet I still thought when it came to this type of situation, it would be different.

I think if everyone would just try to treat others how they want to be treated and realize that you are not the only important person in the world, things would improve. I mean, I may not know you but that doesn’t mean that your life doesn’t have value. I am grateful and blessed to be healthy today. I am grateful and blessed that my family and friends are healthy today. But I still wear a mask when I go out because I don’t know if I’m carrying anything that will make someone else sick. I care enough about the clerk checking me out, the stranger standing in front of and behind me to use precauations. When I have extra money, I give to help others. If I don’t have extra money, I give time. It doesn’t hurt me to do it.

Sometimes we are so concerned about our own needs, wants and comforts that we step on and over others as we seek them. I suggest we try caring. It’s really not that hard. Goodness, it may even make us all feel good, less miserable, less unhappy. Yep, I think that’s a good idea. Let’s all give caring a try.
